The Lamborghini Urus, revealed in December 2017 and delivered from 2018, is Lamborghini’s “Super SUV”: a four- or five-seat SUV with a twin-turbo V8 and supercar performance. It shares its underlying platform with the Audi Q8, Porsche Cayenne and Bentley Bentayga, but has its own design and tuning. The Urus quickly became Lamborghini’s best-selling model, and a plug-in hybrid Urus SE followed in 2024.

The ancestor: LM002

Lamborghini built an SUV long before the Urus. The LM002, produced from 1986 to 1993, was a huge off-roader powered by a Countach V12 and nicknamed the “Rambo Lambo”. Only a few hundred were built.

Why Lamborghini needed an SUV

Supercars sell in limited numbers and are often bought as second or third cars. An SUV could be used every day, all year, and attract new customers. Owned by Audi since 1998, Lamborghini had access to the Volkswagen Group’s large-SUV platform.

Performance

The Urus accelerates like a sports car and has adjustable air suspension, rear-wheel steering and active anti-roll bars. Driving modes range from comfortable road driving to snow, sand and gravel settings.

The name

In keeping with Lamborghini’s tradition of bull-related names, the urus (aurochs) was a large wild ox, ancestor of domestic cattle.

Urus SE

The 2024 Urus SE combined the V8 with an electric motor and battery, allowing short electric-only drives and more total power — part of Lamborghini’s shift to hybrid powertrains.
