The formula
Start from your scheduled departure. Subtract the time you want to be at the terminal (2 hours domestic, 3 hours international), subtract the upper end of your drive-time range, then add 15–30 minutes of buffer for the unexpected. The result is your pickup time.
Example: a 9:00 a.m. domestic flight from Newark, leaving from Paramus. Terminal by 7:00 a.m.; Paramus to EWR is roughly 30–50 minutes, so use 50; add a 15-minute buffer. Pickup: 5:55 a.m. — call it 5:45.
